John ANDERSON and Jeane (---)

1. John ANDERSON, born about 1670, married about 1695 Jeane (---), born about 1672.  In 1694/5 Hannah Gosby (probably the daughter of Christopher Nicholson and Hannah Rednap) proved rights for Jno. Anderson and Jean Anderson at February Court in Perquimans County,  North Carolina. At the March court in 1703 John gave oath to prove the will of Samuel Pricklove. He was on John Perry's 1744 list of householders. John and wife, Jean bought 209 acres from Christopher Butler, Atty. for Stephen Manwaring on NE side of Perquimans River called "Pricklows plan" formerly Edward Norwoods land[1]. On 13 July 1702 they sold 150 acres to John Hawkins on NE side of Perquimans River called "Norwoods Old field"[2]. They purchased other land in the same area[3].

John may have had a brother named James, who also bought land in Perquimans County, North Carolina in 1702[4] James married Deborah and they had a son named John Anderson and a daughter, Elizabeth, b.6 Oct 1706 in Berkeley, later called Perquimans County,  North Carolina.[5], who probably died before her father.  James, Sr. may have died in 1741, Perquimans. He probably had sons named James and John. In several deeds abstracted in The History of Perquimans County, North Carolina, "James is said to be of Craven County (this is probably James, Jr.) and in 1746[6], James Anderson, planter sells land on 18 Mar 1746, owned by his brother John Anderson dec'd late of Perquimans County to Christopher Sutton. Berkeley Precinct. John died between 17 Jan 1744/5 and 5 Mar 1745[7].

Children of John ANDERSON and Jeane (---) were as follows:

                                            Generation 2

  3. John ANDERSON (John1), born[12] 7 Dec 1699 in Berkeley Precinct, North Carolina. There is also an entry for John on pg. 368 Vol. 3, No. 3 of Hathaway's Register, that says he was born the same date, but in 1694. He died before 1757 in Perquimans County,  North Carolina.  He married[13] at the lower Meeting House in Perquimans on 28 May 1719 Elisabeth NICHOLSON. She was born[14] 5 Jan 1697 in Perquimans; died[15] between 25 May 1757 and Jan 1760 in Perquimans, she was the daughter of Samuel NICHOLSON and Elisabeth CHARLES.  (SEE NICHOLSON AND CHARLES FAMILIES)

The will abstract of Elizabeth Anderson, widow of John Anderson[16], dated 25 May 1757, proved Jan Court 1760, Perquimans County, mentions  son John, daughter Abigail Charles, son Samuel, granddaughter Elizabeth Henbe, grandson William Arnold, granddaughter Sarah Henbe, grandson Joshua Albertson, son of Elihu; and William Arnold. Son John and Wm Albertson executors, Test, Sam'l Anderson, John Boswell, and Joseph Boswell.

Elizabeth and John received an inheritance in a rather roundabout way, This is being inserted here due to its unusual interest: Elizabeth Anderson, and John Anderson, Sarah, and John Jones, Sarah, and Jacob Mullen, and Thomas Nicholson, for 236 pounds paid by Richard Sanders, of Perquimans sold 100 acres on the northeast side of Perquimans River, "land that Samuel Nicholson, at the request of his father Christopher Nicholson, made over to his brother Joseph". Said Joseph in his will gave it to his brother John, who died without heirs, "in like manner", left it to Nathaniel Nicholson, he also having no heirs, left it to Benjamin Nicholson, "all failing of heirs". Said Joseph in his will had given said land, called "Log house" land", to his five brothers, (Sam'l, John, Nath'l and Christopher). Jan 17, 1742/3. Test' Joseph Robinson, Joseph Ratliff, Abram Sanders[17].

Children of John ANDERSON and Elisabeth NICHOLSON were as follows:

33 F  i.   Mary ANDERSON was born on 19 Apr 1720 in Perquimans County, North Carolina.  Mary may have married ? Arnold, she is not mentioned in her mother's will dated 25 May 1757[18], but a grandchild, William Arnold is.

Their daughter, Elizabeth Albertson was the 3rd wife of Thomas Winslow of Randolph County, North Carolina. One source names Thomas Winslow's 3rd wife as Elizabeth Anderson and this is mistakenly reported in other genealogies.

Sarah declared her intentions to marry Joseph Henby on 5 Oct 1748, Perquimans at John Anderson's house[26].
